2009 Audi A4Story by Jeff Feldsher - October 16,2007 For 2009 Audi has again re-designed its popular A4 sedan. Now a bigger, more capable car, it still carries the distinctive Audi lines with styling cues borrowed from its big brother the A5/S5. It has also has grown six inches in length and is wider than last years model. Now only slightly smaller than the full size A6, the A4 is the largest vehicle in its class and is in fact a whopping seven inches longer than a BMW 3 series sedan. Sliding into the cabin, the extra room is immediately evident. The interior feels extremely spacious, rear legroom is vastly improved and trunk capacity has increased by about 40%. The dash has also been re-designed to class leading Audi specifications. Controls are in easy reach, with a pleasing typically German layout. Leather adorns nearly every surface, including the seats which have been updated to provide increased passenger comfort.
Initially the A4 will be available with a new 3.2L DOHC 24 valve V6 producing a healthy 265HP and Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel drive system. This should be enough to propel the over 3600lbs sedan to a very respectable 0-60mph time of 6.2 seconds. A 2.0T model will follow soon after, along with a fully manual transmission. Gas consumption is expected to decrease due to lower weight, a revised air-con system which is now more efficient, and the A4’s slippery shape, coming in at a wind cheating 0.29cd.
The A4 is scheduled to arrive on our shores by fall 2008, pricing is not finalized, however expect a slight premium over the outgoing model. This should bring it in line with similarly equipped Mercedes C class and 3 series BMW models.
